Under 21:
Our Under 21 hurlers ran up a huge score when defeating Hospital/Herbertstown at Bruree on Tuesday night. Bruree led by double scores at the interval (2-10 to 1-5) though Christy Kelly in the Bruree goals was called on to bring off a couple of good saves. Two goals, from Michael O’Donnell and Gerard O’Dea, within a minute put Bruree in the driver’s seat. Points from Donal Deady (0-5, 0-3 frees), Tommy O’Brien, Kieran O’Rourke, Gerard O’Dea (free), Shane Mullane (free) and David O’Dea completed Bruree’s first half tally. The scoring spree continued in the second half as Gerard O’Dea added his second goal and Michael Mullane also found the net for Bruree. Donal Deady added four more points from frees to his tally while Kieran O’Rourke (0-3) Brian O’Rourke, David O’Dea and Gerard O’Dea brought Bruree’s final score to 4-20 to Hospital/Herbertstown’s 1-9. The Bruree team was Christy Kelly, Patrick Deady, Jimmy O’Dea, Vincent Stanton, Tommy O’Brien Shane Mullane, Michael Lane, Brian O’Rourke, Kieran O’Rourke, Donal Deady, David O’Dea, Michael Mullane, David Barron, Gerard O’Dea, Michael O’Donnell, Michael Cotter, David Broderick.Bruree’s Junior A footballers played Castletown/Ballyagran at Bruree on Thursday night last. It took two late Bruree goals to separate the sides, giving Bruree a 2-13 to 2-8 victory. Bruree looked to have the edge for most of the game but had difficulty making this show on the scoreboard. The sides were level at half time on a score of Bruree 0-7 Castletown/Ballyagran 1-4 with Bruree having points from play from Paddy Kelly, Kieran O’Rourke and Michael Lane (2) and three from frees from Stephen O’Halloran. The Castletown/Ballyagran goal was the subject of debate as Paul Sexton in the Bruree goal appeared to have kept the ball from going over the line. Castletown/Ballyagran quickly ran into a four point lead within five minutes of the resumption, scoring a goal from play and a point each from a penalty and from play. Points from play from Kieran and Brian O’Rourke, Donal Deady and James C. O’Brien, added to a Stephen O’Halloran converted free had this gap down to the minimum by the twenty minute mark. Then came Bruree’s two goals, one when Brian O’Rourke found a loose ball in the Castletown/Ballyagran goalmouth and finished to the net and the second when Donal Deady finished a movement involving Stephen O’Halloran and Brian O’Rourke. The sides exchanged points in the closing minutes with James C. O’Brien finding the range for Bruree. The Bruree team was Paul Sexton, Vincent Stanton, Andrew Sexton, Chris Sexton, David O’Dea, Jimmy O’Dea, Dessie Lenihan, Brendan Hogan, James C. O’Brien, Kieran O’Rourke, Michael Lane, Paddy Kelly, Brian O’Rourke, Stephen O’Halloran, Donal Deady, Patrick Deady, Laurence Sexton, Eamon Sexton.
