MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL
To open the Kilmallock Medieval Festival, Friars’ Gate will be hosting the inaugural Mannix Joyce Lecture on Friday, August 22, at 8.00 pm. The lecture will be delivered by John Bradley, Senior Lecturer in History in N.U.I, Maynooth. To celebrate Walled Towns Day, which takes place on Sunday 24th August, John will outline the history of walled towns in Ireland and discuss the significance of Kilmallock, one of Ireland's best surviving walled towns. The lecture will emphasise the distinctiveness of walled towns, particularly small walled towns like Kilmallock, highlight their importance for life in the twenty-first century, and explain why it is important to protect and preserve their heritage. John is a very engaging and accessible speaker and the evening promises to be informative and enjoyable. Tickets are only €6 and include refreshments beforehand.
