Bruree Notes 22/6/2009

GAA
South Final: Bruree’s Junior A hurlers, short a number of regulars, could not find a way to overcome a strong Kilmallock performance in the South League final at Kilfinane on Tuesday evening. The first half was all Kilmallock with Bruree trailing by 0-2 to 1-10 at the break. Both Bruree points came from Gerard O’Dea placed balls. Bruree put up a much better performance in the second half and finished with a score of 3-5 to Kilmallock’s 1-19. Charlie O’Shea played a part in all three Bruree goals. The first came afeter Charlie dropped a long free into the square and Peter Cussen finished to the net. The second one also came from a long free from Charlie and in the confusion ended up in the Kilmallock net. A close in free was sent to the net by Charlie with just a minute to go. Bruree’s only other score from play, a point, came from Mike Sexton while Gerard O’Dea and Charlie O’Shea both converted frees. The Bruree team was Eamon Sexton, Patrick Deady, Anthony O’Shea, Chris Sexton, John Deady, Paul Fitzgerald, Billy O’Donnell, Vincent Stanton, David Hogan, Charlie O’Shea, Gerard O’Dea, Michael Mullane, Sean Deane, Mike Sexton, Niall Broderick, David Deady, Michael Cotter, David Broderick, Laurence sexton, Peter Cussen.

Saturday June 27th Junior A South Championship v Castleton/Ballyagran at Kilmallock at 7.30 pm

Golf Classic: A fundraising Golf Classic will be held at Charleville Golf Club on Friday, July 17th. A very attractive first prize of All Ireland Final tickets plus overnight accommodation makes this the classic to be part of. Our adult club presently has teams in senior hurling league and championship, junior “A” hurling and football and Under 21 hurling and football. Our underage players are the future of Bruree GAA and the membership of our juvenile club has never been higher - 98 members are currently registered. We strive to provide regular training and matches to cater from Under 8 to Under 16 level. We are aware that, in the present economic climate, serious consideration has to be given to the level of support provided to organizations like ourselves. To enable everyone who wants to support the Bruree GAA Golf Classic this year to do so, we have reduced the team entry fee to €100 (team of 3) and tee sponsorship to €50. We trust that you will agree that this represents excellent value and we look forward to your continued support. If you have any queries please contact Chairman Noel O’Halloran on 087 7512396. For team bookings contact John Carey at 087-2701771.

Community Radio

There are two more draws still to go in the Ballyhoura Community Radio members draw with membership at just €10 per draw (€20 for both draws). You can join with John Harrold or any member of BCR. The second draw will be held on at the end of June. Your support would be greatly appreciated for your radio station. Ballyhoura Community Radio is now broadcasting on the internet on Friday, Saturday and Sundays from 5.00 to 9.00 pm. Just go to www.bcradio.ie and click on the Listen Live link. Requests may be sent to studio@bcradio.ie. BCR is a community station run by volunteers. Much of the finances to run the station must come from fundraising.
GAA Summer Coaching Week
This year’s Summer Coaching Week is now upon us and all the young people of the parish are eagerly looking forward to next week’s activities. The coaching week will take place from June 29th to July 3rd, 2009. It has long been insisted that players represent the most important constituent in any GAA club. They are our key resource, and give so much enjoyment to so many people year after year. As a result, our club coaches have a most important job to perform in ensuring that the youth continue to play and enjoy our games, and that all of our players continue to develop as athletes. This week of coaching for both hurling and football is available for all children in the parish from 7 years to 14 years (It is important to note that the minimum age is 7 years old, as only children of 7 years and over can be affiliated to the club for insurance purposes). All basic skills in hurling and football will be demonstrated/coached so any “new” players will be especially welcome. Monday to Thursday, coaching will be from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm. Children should bring lunch and drink daily and remember to bring your hurley and helmet daily. At the end of the week, on Friday 3rd, there will be a wide range of fun events in the field for all participants in the coaching week. This will run from 6.00 - 9.00 pm weather permitting. If we are unable to run events in the field, we will reconvene in the school hall from 6.00pm - 7.30pm. Sports gear and a certificate of attendance will be presented. Total cost for this great week is €30 per child, for families of 3 children or more it will cost €80 and is now due. For anyone that has any queries please do not hesitate to contact Mike Mullane, Mike Lyons or Gerard Sexton.
