Juvenile GAA
U12 Hurling League: Brú   4-3 Ráth Caola 1-0. The Under 12 Hurling League continued on Thursday 2rd June with a home game against St. Mary’s Rathkeale. The game got off to a slow start with both teams battling for possession of the ball. Brian McCarthy’s point in the eighth minute got the scoring under way and he followed this up with a goal five minutes later. The scores were few for the rest of the first half, but Eoghan O’Driscoll’s goal shortly before half-time brought the home team’s half-time score to 2-1, with no score to Rathkeale. Bruree continued to dominate in the second half, creating many scoring chances.Rathkeale’s excellent goalkeeper put paid to some of these, but still the visiting team were not able to penetrate Bruree’s able defenders, with David O’Connell and Katie Quirke clearing many balls, while our goalkeeper Jimmy Leslie-Madigan dealt with the rest. Brian McCarthy got the first score of the second half, a goal and this was quickly followed by a goal for Rathkeale. Cathal Barrington answered this with another goal: two more goals in quick succession from Seán Quirke and Brian McCarthy brought the final Bruree score to 4-3 to Rathkeale’s 1-0.
This was a good win for the Bruree Under 12s, who showed skill, co-ordination and determination throughout, despite Rathkeale’s considerable ability in catching and blocking down. Rathkeale, despite their low scoring, were not an easy team to beat as their defence was strong. Great credit is due to the Bruree team for such an excellent finish.
