BRUREE NOTES 17/2/2013

GAA:

Mackey Draw: Bruree GAA will once again promote the Limerick GAA Development Draw for 2013 as one of its main fundraisers. There are a total of twenty eight prizes for each draw and the top prize each month is €15,000. There is a total prize fund of over €300,000. The subscription is €100 for the year. Please support your club and your county by joining the draw with any of the local promoters or any committee member. The first of the ten draws will take place on Friday, March 1st.

Hurling Draws: The draws for this year’s championships have been  made. In the Senior Hurling Championship, Bruree is drawn in Group 3 with Adare, Murroe/Boher and Knockainey. This should make for some tasty encounters during the summer and if Bruree can continue the progress made over the past couple of years who knows what might happen!

COMMUNITY HALL:

Thank-you to all who turned out for the clean up last Saturday. Some great work was done both outside and inside.  There will be an open meeting on Friday, February 22nd, in the School Hall at 8.00 pm. We will update you on the progress made so far and would like to hear from anyone with ideas regarding the hall.  All welcome.

CAR BOOT SALE:

The next car boot sale in aid of the Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development Committee will be held on Saturday, February 23rd.

LIMERICK’S BUILT HERITAGE:

The sixth series of exploratory lectures on the theme of Limerick’s Built Heritage will take place over six Tuesday nights at the County Hall in Dooradoyle starting at 8.00 pm each night. The remaining topics are as follows: Feb 26 The Archaeology of Mills and Milling in County Limerick from an early medieval period to c.1900, Mar 12 University of Limerick: a Technological University on the Banks of the Shannon, Mar 26 Limerick 2030. Admission is free every night.

SYMPATHY:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family relatives and friends of Jack Donegan, Cappanahane, and Tom O'Donnell, Limerick City, who died recently.

BRUREE/ROCKHILL COMMUNITY GAMES 2013:

We’re going to the Munsters! Our Under 10 indoor soccer team won the county final of the community games in Galvone, Limerick City, without conceding a goal throughout the tournament. In the semi-finals they met St. Kiernans. It was a closely contested first half with both teams going in even at half time. In the second half Bruree battled hard and were rewarded with a fine goal from Katie Buckley, who drove a low hard shot into the corner of the net. This was followed by a smashing goal from Elaine Frawley. This 2-0 victory led us to the final where we met Bruff. From the whistle both teams came out on the attack It was an evenly fought first half with both teams having chances on goal In this match our keeper Niamh Cotter gave an outstanding performance, saving two penalties keeping Bruree in the match. Bruree continued to absorb the pressure and were rewarded with a goal from Katie Buckley, this was followed by her second and winning goal. The Bruree supporters went wild when the final whistle blew. Congratulations to all the girls who are on their way to Tralee in March to play in the Munster finals. A special thanks to David O’Brien and Margie Crowley for all their hard work and commitment with training the girls.

DEFIBRILLATORS:

Training: A new round of training and re-training in the use of the defibrillators in the parish is now taking place. This equipment is very important in the community and the more people who are trained in their use, the better. It could save someone’s life! Training is free for those who join the rota of those on call - this means you would be on call one week in approximately three months. Training is also available for those who do not wish to become part of the rota but who would like to know how to use the equipment. Training takes just three hours or so. Used Phones: Do you have a mobile phone or phones you no longer need or use? If so, the Bruree Rockhill Defibrillator Group can make use of them. If they can collect enough mobile phones, these can be exchanged for a portable defibrillator unit for the parish. The only stipulation is that the phone must be complete. LOTTO:

Lucky dip winners in last wek’s Bruree GAA/Rockhill Rovers lotto draw were €50 Sean and Kevin O’Connor €25 DJ McGrath, Paddy Kelly €20 Francis Fitzgerald, Hospital, Kieran, Shane and Mike Mullane, Mary Hayes.

THE WITNESS:

The Witness: A musical by Carol & Jimmy Owens. The Witness is the story of Jesus, told and sung by Peter and the other men and women who knew the Master best. Featuring a great cast and coordinated by Fr. Terry Loughran. “The Witness” a musical, will be presented by the Diocese of Limerick, in the Lime Tree Theatre, Mary Immaculate College, on Friday and Saturday, March 8th/9th at 8.00 pm. This production, which is being staged just before Easter, is an ideal opportunity for parishes, youth groups, as well as individuals to participate in a meaningful and relevant way in the Year of Faith and to enter into the spirit of the season of preparation for the events of Holy Week. REUNION:

John Hanley is a native of Bruree. He attended the National School in the village from 1953 to 1961. John will be in Ireland in April 2013 and would love to get together with some of his school mates of fifty years ago during his visit. John’s email address is johnhanley33@msn.com.
