GAA

Under 21: Our Under 21 hurlers were very unlucky to lose to Blackrock at Bruree on Tuesday evening. Bruree led the game for all but the final five minutes when a scoring surge from the visitors gave them a two point victory. This was a game played with great heart and determination by Bruree and they deserved at least a draw. Bruree led by three points at half time on a 0-7 to 0-4 scoreline. Michael O’Donnell, Kieran and Brian O’Rourke and David Barron all found the range from play while Donal Deady converted three frees. Donal pointed from play almost immediately after the resumption but a Blackrock goal closed the gap to just a point. This was wiped out on four minutes when Blackrock pointed a free. But Bruree dug deep and points from Gerard O’Dea (2) and Michael Lane as well as a Donal Deady pointed free gave Bruree a four point cushion. Christy Kelly was called on to make a great save with eight minutes to go but Blackrock were looking the stronger as full time approached. In the closing five minutes, they took the lead with a goal and two points. Donal Deady levelled matters again when he converted a sixty five but two injury time points from play gave Blackrock a 2-9 to 0-13 win. The Bruree team was Christy Kelly, Patrick Deady, Jimmy O’Dea, Vincent Stanton, Tommy O’Brien Shane Mullane, Michael Lane, Brian O’Rourke, Kieran O’Rourke, Donal Deady, David O’Dea, Michael Mullane, David Barron, Gerard O’Dea, Michael O’Donnell, Michael Cotter, Niall Broderick, David Broderick, Brian Morrissey.

Juvenile GAA

Bruree’s Under 14 hurlers battled well in their South final against a very strong Knockainey side at Banogue on Sunday. Bruree trailed by 4-2 to 0-1 at the break but Bruree were unlucky not to add a couple of goals to their tally. Bruree’s only first half score came from a Kieran O’Dea free. Knockainey found the Bruree net almost immediately after the resumption but most of the remainder of the second half was played in the Knockainey half of the field. Two goals from Kieran O’Dea coupled with points from Kieran O’Dea, Cathal Kelly and Shane Feane made the final scoreline a more respectable Bruree 2-4 Knockainey 6-4. The Bruree lads can be proud of their performance and we will hear a lot more about these lads over the coming years. The Bruree team was Ronan O’Halloran, Cian O’Connell, Aaron Tierney, Shane Feane, Kieran O’Dea, T.J. Mullane, Patrick McKiernan, Brendan Murphy, Patrick Carey, Jack Potter, Darren Kelly, Cathal Kelly, Eamon Lyons, James Kelleher, Cian McCarthy, Stephen Sexton.
