GAA
Junior Football
Quarter Final: Our Junior footballers travelled to Coolyroe on Sunday to play Ballybrown in the county quarter-final. Just after half time, Bruree looked to have this game sewn up but, by the final whistle, had to rely on a late free to secure a draw. In the first half, Bruree looked very good at times but were inclined to lack a little directness. Two Bruree goals served to give them a two point interval advantage after a closely fought half hour. Approaching the twenty minute mark, a well worked ball out of defence was taken forward by Michael Lane and Paddy Kelly before a ball across the square was volleyed to the net by Vincent Stanton. Almost immediately, Ballybrown broke downfield and found the Bruree net. Three minutes later a free from Stephen O’Halloran broke in front of goal where it was finished to the net by Paddy Kelly. A point from play from Jimmy O’Dea and two from frees from Stephen O’Halloran left the half time score Bruree 2-3 Ballybrown 1-4. In the opening minute of the second half, a free from Charlie O’Shea was finished to the net by Vincent Stanton to give Bruree a five point lead. Apart from points from play from James V. O’Brien and Stephen O’Halloran, the remainder of the half belonged to Ballybrown who added eight points, seven from play, to take a slender lead. Bruree seemed to have no answer to a marauding Ballybrown side and on numerous occasions, gave the ball away too easily. A late free was converted by Stephen O’Halloran to give Bruree a draw on a Bruree 3-6 Ballybrown 1-12 scoreline.

Over 40’s: An over 40’s hurling tournament game between Bruree and Parteen is being arranged as a fundraiser for Milford Hospice. Anyone interested in taking part are asked to contact Hugh Hogan, Mike Mullane or Johnny Wall (087-1264592).
