BRUREE NOTES 27/10/2008

GAA

Bruree Team

Over 40’s: The over 40’s hurling tournament game between Bruree and Parteen attracted a great crowd to Bruree Sportsfield on Sunday afternoon. There was a big turnout of Bruree greats of the recent past and an entertaining game was enjoyed by all present. Parteen got off to the better start but goals from Noel Brosnan and Danny Deady settled Bruree. With Pat Stanton in good form between the posts, Bruree repelled numerous Parteen attacks. Points from Peter Finn, Mike Sexton and Mike Mullane and a goal from Mike Mullane gave Bruree a comfortable half time lead. The same could not be said for the Bruree stars as Deep Heat and physio were in great demand during the interval. A few well chosen words from management set Bruree in the right frame of mind for the second half. The game was sealed in Bruree’s favour when Johnny Wall found the net from a penalty in the opening minute. Parteen could only manage a point from a penalty a minute later while Peter Finn looked in fine form as he sent over two points from play. When John Sexton appeared from nowhere to find the Parteen net, the game was effectively over, giving the home side a better than expected winning scoreline. All Ireland referee, Ray Moloney, had a good game, keeping effective control with the minimum of intrusion. A Paddy Russell like incident was dealt with authoritatively. The Perpetual Cup was presented to Bruree captain, Mike Mullane, by Parteen’s Johnny Prenderville. Man of the Match was Ged Moynihan who received his trophy from Bruree chairman, Noel O’Halloran. Festivities then adjourned to the Central Bar to wind down after the excitement of the game. It was great to see so many stars of the past lining out again in the Bruree jersey and, better still, that the jerseys still fitted! However, I think there will be a queue at the physiotherapist this week as muscles, hamstrings and various other bodily parts recover from the efforts. The game was a fundraiser for Milford Hospice and we thank everyone for their generous support. Thanks to all the players who lined out and to the lads from Parteen from coming to Bruree. Bruree lined out as follows: Pat Stanton, John Sexton, Ged Moynihan, Mike Potter, Donal Mullane, John Potter, Hugh Hogan, Mike Barron, Mike Sexton, Peter Finn, Gerard Mullane, Eamon O’Dea, Mike Mullane, Noel Brosnan, Danny Deady, John Lyons, Johnny Wall, Gerard Sexton, John O’Gorman, Mike Lyons, Jim O’Connell. Players Development Fund: Bruree GAA is holding its Player Development Fund annual draw again this year. The 2008 draw is bigger and better than ever with €1,000 in cash as a first prize in each of four weekly draws. There will also be one prize of €200 and three of €100 for each
draw. And the good news is that the subscription is still the same - just €20 for the four draws. The first draw will be held on Monday, December 1st, with the other draws on subsequent Monday nights. Contact any member of Bruree GAA to join the draw. Fixture: Sunday November 1st Junior A Football v Mountcollins at the
Gaelic Grounds at 1.30 pm. Because of the weather, check with management before traveling to any fixture.
