Juvenile AGM:
The Annual General Meeting of Bruree Juvenile GAA Club was held on Friday last in the Community Centre. Chairman, Eamon O’Dea welcomed everyone and congratulated and thanked everyone involved with the club during 2008. Secretary, Mike Lyons, reviewed another good year for the club, with over 45 games being played at underage level. While the club did not collect any silverware, teams were competing well and contesting finals. The 2008 summer coaching week had been another outstanding success, with over eight children attending. Thanks were expressed to everyone who contributed to the week’s success. The club’s sponsors were also thanked for their continuing generosity. Kit O’Halloran’s treasurer’s report showed another good year for the club. Election of officers was postponed.

Planning for 2009:
Parents of children involved with underage games in the parish are invited to attend an open meeting to discuss Bruree Juvenile Club in the context of the exciting plans by the County Board for juvenile hurling and football for 2009 onwards. The meeting takes place on tonight, Thursday, 18th December, in the school at 8.00 pm sharp.Your child is the future of Bruree G.A.A. and the Club welcomes his/her participation in our games. New structures are being put in place under the “Lifting the Treaty” initiative which ensures participation at all levels. Last year’s summer camp was an outstanding success for the club due to the help and support of parents and club members. Your continued support will ensure that the 2009 camp is equally successful. Your support and cooperation as a parent is essential to ensuring a vibrant club and a sporting outlet for your children. Your involvement will be most appreciated and your attendance on Thursday night would be a tremendous vote of confidence in the future of gaelic games in your parish.

Oral History:
The GAA Oral History Project aims to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, in their own words. A questionnaire has been designed to gather as much information as possible and this questionnaire will be preserved as a permanent resource on the history of the GAA and Irish society. This document will be accessible to the public, with the exception of your contact details. Among the topics covered in the questionnaire are the respondent’s memories of the GAA, their own and their family’s involvement in the association and the affect of that involvement in their life. It also addresses the changes which have happened in the GAA and the role, involvement and influences of the Church, politics, the Irish language, women, and volunteers in the GAA. Anyone interested in participating in this collecting of the oral history of the GAA (and everyone who has had even the most fleeting contact with gaelic games and the GAA should participate) can contact Elaine Horgan or John Harrold to obtain a copy of the questionnaire.
