Oral History: The GAA Oral History Project aims to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, in their own words. A questionnaire has been designed to gather as much information as possible and this questionnaire will be preserved as a permanent resource on the history of the GAA and Irish society. Anyone interested in participating in this collecting of the oral history of the GAA can contact Elaine Horgan or John Harrold to obtain a copy of the questionnaire.
Jobs: Limerick GAA Jobs Creation Ltd has decided with the full support of Limerick GAA Management Committee to product a booklet which will be distributed within the county of the names of members who provide services. At a time of increasing unemployment this is an opportunity for the GAA to become proactive in creating employment opportunities for its members. There is a wide range of services which can be provided and include such areas as electrical, plumbing, block laying, stone wall building, carpentry, plastering, site work, landscaping, garden maintenance, bookkeeping, accounting, photography, secretarial/administration, computer and white goods repair. The GAA either at club or county level bear no responsibility for the quality of the work. The only requirement is that the person providing the service is a full member of the GAA. If you are eligible to be included in this booklet, please give your name and the type of service provided along with a contact number to Elaine Horgan.

Keeping It In The Family
Way back in 1912, Ballingarry met Fedamore at the Market Fields in Limerick to decide the destiny of the 1911 County Senior Hurling title. The 1911 final was not played until September 29th of the following year and was won by Ballingarry on a 4-2 to 1-2 scoreline. Ballingarry had won the Intermediate title in 1910, their first ever county medals .Part of that Ballingarry team of 1910 and 1911 was one John Kiely. Just over fifty years later, on October 21st, 1962, Western Gaels successfully defended the County Senior Hurling title which they had won the previous year. The challengers at the Gaelic Grounds in 1962 were Kilmallock who lost out narrowly on a 4-5 to 4-3 scoreline. On that Western Gaels team was Paddy Kiely, son of the aforementioned John. Fast forward to 2006 and Bruree were winning their first ever County Senior Hurling title. A narrow win over Patrickswell gave Bruree possession of the Daly Cup for the first time. On that Bruree team was Dessie Lenihan, great grandson of John Kiely and grand-nephew of Paddy. The three Senior Medals were brought together recently with Paddy Kiely having his own and his father’s medal. It was a historic occasion to have three of the most sought after medals in Limerick hurling, from three very different eras, together in the one place. Surely a source of quiet pride to a family steeped in hurling tradition. Three generations, almost one hundred years, three different clubs, three County Senior Hurling medals, one family - certainly a fairly unique record in the annals of gaelic games in Limerick.
