Junior Hurling: Our Junior hurlers travelled to Ballyagran on Monday night to play Kilmallock in the South championship. After a disaster of a start, an under strength Bruree played some great hurling for twenty minutes to trail by just four points at half time. However, Kilmallock started the second half the stronger and quickly built up an unassailable lead. A goal and a point early in the first half seemed to indicate that Kilmallock would dominate this game. But a goal from Sean Deane from a high ball in from David Hogan signalled a Bruree renaissance seven minutes into the game. A couple of more Kilmallock points were quickly cancelled out by points from play from Eamon Sexton and Michael Mullane as well as three converted frees from David Hogan. The closing ten minutes of the half saw Kilmallock run up a total of seven points, three from frees, interrupted only by a pointed free from David Hogan. This left the half time score Bruree 1-6 Kilmallock 1-10. A Kilmallock goal early in the second half turned the game away from Bruree and it was Kilmallock who dominated the scoring for the half hour. Four points from David Hogan, three from frees, were Bruree’s only return during the half, seeing Kilmallock run out 2-18 to 1-10 winners. The Bruree team was Paul Sexton, Patrick Deady, Anthony O’Shea, John O’Halloran, Vincent Stanton, Paul Fitzgerald, Morgan Lyons, John Lynch, Christopher Sexton, Billy O’Donnell, Brendan Hogan, Michael Mullane, David Hogan, Sean Deane, Eamon Sexton, Michael Cotter, David Broderick.
Under 21 Football: Bruree turned in a creditable performance on Thursday night when scoring a good win over Castletown/Ballyagran in the county semi-final at Bruree. Bruree got off to a quick start with four unanswered points from play in the opening ten minutes from Brian O’Rourke, Donal Deady, Tommy O’Brien and Michael Lane. Goals from William Kelly and Michael Lane stretched Bruree lead further before points from play from Patrick Deady, Donal Deady and Michael Lane and a pointed free from Brian O’Rourke gave Bruree a 2-1 to 1-2 half time advantage. Bruree’s defence stood firm, clearing any attempts by the visitors to score. Bruree eased off a little in the second half but goals from William Kelly and Michael Lane as well as points from play from Michael Lane and Brian O’Rourke left the final score Bruree 4-10 Castletown/Ballyagran 2-4. The Bruree team was David Broderick, David Deady, Shane Mullane, Jimmy O’Dea, Vincent Stanton, Tommy O’Brien, Patrick Deady, Donal Deady, Michael Lane, Brian O’Rourke, Christy Kelly, William Kelly, Michael Cotter, Shane Aldridge, Adam Kelly.
