BRUREE NOTES 11/10/2009

CHILDCARE

Those thinking of training and further education might be interested to know that an Introduction to Childcare course is being offered by the Back to Education Initiative (BTEI) of County Cork VEC, in association with Ballyhoura Development, will be starting soon in Charleville. The course will run over two days per week (eight hours) for 10 weeks and with core modules in Child Development & Play and Caring for Children, the skills obtained will enable participants to progress to a level 5 qualification and/or to become crèche assistants. The course is funded under the BTEI and is free to those who have not completed a Leaving Certificate, those who are in receipt of a Social Welfare payment and to holders of Medical/GP only Cards. Places are limited and those from the aforementioned categories will be given priority. 45 DRIVE

Winners of the 45 Drive last week with eight games were Mary Margaret Noonan and Nora Mai Donworth and Mike O’Brien and Patsy Healy. Raffle prizes went to Patsy Healy, Josephine Lynch, Eddie O’Dea and Marie Healy. The 45 Drive continues in the Community Centre every Tuesday night, starting at 8.30 pm sharp.

GAA

Fixture: Sunday October 18th Under 21 Hurling South semi-final v Dromin/Athlacca at Ballyagran at 12.00 noon. Please come along and lend your vocal support.

JUVENILE GAA

Under 12: Our Under 12 hurlers travelled to the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for this year’s finals day. Every team which took part in the 2009 Under 12 competition got to play a game at county headquarters. We were down to play Dromcollogher/Broadford. Bruree put in a great performance and had the upper hand throughout the game. Points from Aaron Fitzgerald, Shane Feane and Sean Quirke gave Bruree a 0-3 to 0-1 half time lead. Further points from Aaron Fitzgerald and Seamus Lyons and a goal from Tommy Cronnolly meant Bruree led by 1-5 to 0-2 at full time. The Bruree team was Gearoid McCarthy, Eimear McCarthy, Eoin O’Connell, Brian Sexton, Edward Moore, Shane Feane, Darragh O’Driscoll, Cian McCarthy, Eva Lyons, Eoin Carey, Aaron Fitzgerald, Seamus Lyons, Ciaran Sexton, Sean Quirke, Shane Hannon, Jack Murphy, Eoin O’Connell, Tommy Cronnolly, Ciara Daly, Thomas O’Dwyer, Sean McCarthy. Thanks to the team coaches and to all the parents who travelled to the match.

CREDIT UNION

Kilmallock Credit Union is looking for entries for their art poster competition. The primary school children will complete their entries at school. There are also categories for teenagers and adults - (a) 11-13 years (b) 14-17 years (c) 18 years and over. If you would like to enter the competition, there are entry forms available at the local primary school. If you would like more details, please contact Mrs. McSweeney at 063-90896. The closing date for entries is October 23rd.
