GAA

Our senior hurlers travelled to Bruff on Sunday night to play their championship third round game against Murroe-Boher. This was a disappointing performance from Bruree with many players playing well below par. Gone was the standard of play we had seen against Granagh-Ballingarry or, indeed, the winning performance we saw against Croom. Bruree trailed by three points at the break but, given their scoring chances, should at least have been level. In fact, Bruree could only score two points from their tally of six from play, one each from Tommy O’Brien and Dessie Lenihan. Stephen O’Halloran provided the remaining four from placed balls. The half time score was Bruree 0-6 Murroe-Boher 1-6. The second half saw a string of missed chances again from Bruree, leaving Bruree scoring just three points over the half hour. Tommy O’Brien had one from play while Stephen O’Halloran and Paddy Kelly each converted a free. This left the final score Bruree 0-9 Murroe-Boher 0-9. This defeat would seem to terminate Bruree’s interest in this year’s championship.

SYMPATHY

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Mary Hawe, Charleville and Mary Aherne, Buttevant, who died recently.

DEFIBRILLATORS

At a recent meeting to discuss the provision of defibrillators in the parish, a committee was set up to move the project forward. The committee is as follows: Chairperson John Daly, Vice Chairperson Marie O’Brien, Joint Secretaries Breeda Cussen/Jessie Griffin, Joint Treasurers John Carey/Joe Carey. An open meeting will be held in the near future and details will be advertised nearer the date. In the meantime, the drive to raise funds for the defibrillators starts with a church gate collection at Rockhill and Bruree on the weekend of August 7th/8th. Locally based defibrillators with a network of people in the area trained in their effective use have been proved to be lifesavers. In the case of a heart attack, early intervention is vital and defibrillators based in Rockhill and Bruree makes this possible. Your generous support would be greatly appreciated. It may save a life and that life could be yours!
