Ladies Football
It is great to see ladies football back in the parish again after a break of a few years. It is also great to see that the young ladies who played football then have lost none of their skills. After a closely fought semi-final against Rathkeale, Bruree have now qualified for the county final. Bruree got off to a great start and led by 1-3 to no score after twenty minutes. Shannon Brosnan provided a brace of early points and also was unlucky to have a great shot at goal come back off the crossbar. Thirteen minutes in a Sinead McAuliffe free was finished to the net from an acute angle by Anna O’Dea to stretch Bruree’s lead. Sinead McAuliffe added a point from play before Rathkeale struck for a goal. Bruree quickly replied with the resulting kickout finding its way to Shannon Brosnan who billowed the Rathkeale net. A penalty award which raised some eyebrows saw the visitors raise another green flag to leave the half time score Bruree 2-3 Rathkeale 2-0. Scores were had to come by in the second half but it was Bruree who finished the stronger. A Shannon Brosnan pointed free opened Bruree’s second half tally and this was quickly followed by a Rathkeale goal. Points from Claudia Hudner and Sinead Costello from play kept Bruree out in front. A Rathkeale point midway through the half closed the gap to two points but this was to be their last score of the game. This was not for want of effort and Bruree’s defence, mustered by Aine Walsh, had to repel many attacks. A point with five minutes to go from Claudia Hudner was followed by a goal from the same player and another from Shannon Brosnan to leave Bruree winners on a 4-7 to 3-1 scoreline. The Bruree team was Leanne Geary, Noreen Lane, Aine Walsh, Margaret Hogan, Janice White, Roisin Cussen, Evelyn O’Dea, Sinead Costello, Tina O’Dea, Sinead McAuliffe, Mairead O’Shea, Anna O’Dea, Anne Deady, Shannon Brosnan, Claudia Hudner, Valerie O’Dea, Anna O’Brien, Aisling Ryan, Lorainne Quinlivan, Sinead Murphy.
