BRUREE NOTES 17/6/2012

Members of the parish choir

MASS ROCK:
On Tuesday evening, a large crowd gathered under the spreading branches of the beech trees on the hill side in Rockhill to join in the celebration of mass at the ancient site where our ancestors had gathered to do the same hundreds of years ago. Mass was celebrated by Rev Desmond McAuliffe accompanied by Rev. John Leonard. The mass rock was the place Mass was celebrated by priests in Penal times with the danger of discovery by the redcoats always a possibility. The celebration recalled those times and Fr. Leonard told those present the story of the mass rock.

JUVENILE GAA:

Cúl Camp: The Cul Camp will be on this year from Monday July 2nd to Friday July 6th inclusive. We would encourage as many people as possible to register on-line at www.gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps. for this event. The entry fee will be €55 for the first child, €45 euro for the second child and €40 euro for each child thereafter. We would ask parents to register their child/children as soon as possible to give us a good indication of the overall numbers participating and this in turn will help us to ensure that we have sufficient coaches in attendance for the week. Further information in relation to the Cul Camp can be obtained by contacting Micheal Lyons at 086-8232857.
Under 12: Brú Rí 5 : 7 Cnoc Áine 2 : 1 The Under 12 season continued with a football game against Knockainey in Bruree on 31st May. The home side took an early and significant lead with a goal each from Sam Cronolly and Brian McCarthy. Knockainey’s answering point was quickly followed by two points from Jimmy Leslie Madigan and Brian McCarthy. A goal from Knockainey earned a swift response from Peter Buckley, who maximised his frontline position with two goals. Two further points from Jimmy Leslie Madigan and Sam Cronolly respectively brought the Bruree score to 4 : 4 to the visitors’ 1 : 1 at half time. The second half was characterised by great defence work, with two spectacular saves by goalkeeper Eoghan O’Driscoll. The one goal put in by Knockainey at this stage was the visiting team’s only score in the second half, while three further points from Jimmy, Brian and Peter and a point from Sam Cronolly brought Bruree’s final score to 5 : 7 to Knockainey’s 2 : 1, a fifteen-point lead for the home side.
The Under 12 team really showed its recent improvement in this football game. The speed and fitness shown by Cathal Barrington and John Sheehan in forward positions was especially noticeable in the first half, while the consistent and solid defence work done by Harry Mullane, Frankie Barrington, Fionnbarr Fitzpatrick and goalkeeper Eoghan O’Driscoll really paid off in the second. The quality of the whole panel was also obvious in this match, with strong performances from Fergus Carey, Matthew Howard, David Sexton and Sam Williams as they re-energised the team at various stages of the game. Added to this the superb scoring ability shown by Peter Buckley, Sam Cronolly, Brian McCarthy and Jimmy Leslie Madigan really made Bruree the better team in this match. A well deserved win for all concerned!
