JUVENILE GAA:

Under 12 Football: Gallbhaile: 5 : 2 Brú Rí: 3 : 1 The Under 12 football season continued with an away game against Galbally. It has been a summer of almost continuous rain so far and the evening of this match was no exception. Bruree started well with plenty of passing and co-ordination between team members such as Sam Williams and Katie Quirke. Peter Buckley got the first score of the game, putting in a goal in the first five minutes: this was was quickly followed by another goal from David Sexton.Galbally responded vigorously, and also concentrated on goal-scoring in wet, slippery conditions which made point-scoring more difficult. Galbally got four goals during this period, bringing their half-time score to 4 : 0 to Bruree’s 2 : 0.

Galbally’s dominance continued in the second half with two points won in the opening minutes, followed by a goal. The Bruree players were severely tested in this phase of the game with robust tackling from the home side putting them under constant pressure. Only the hard work of players such as Harry Mullane and Frankie Barrington in the back line and Fionnbarr Fitzpatrick and Kiara McCarthy in midfield prevented a higher score on Galbally’s part. Cathal Barrington’s point went some way towards improving Bruree’s situation, and hard work in the forward line from William Sexton and Sam Cronolly resulted in a hard-won goal towards the end, but this was not enough to rescue the Bruree team from defeat. Final score: Galbally 5 : 2; Bruree 3 : 1. An honourable finish from a dedicated and sporting group of players.
