BRUREE NOTES 2/12/2012


IMPORTANT MEETING:

A meeting will be held at Bruree National School on Thursday, December 13th, at 8.00 pm. The purpose of the meeting is to set up a parish committee which will look after the running and refurbishment of the community centre, tidy towns activities etc. Anyone interested in becoming involved in any way is asked to come along.

HOPE FOUNDATION:

A Pub Quiz in aid of The Hope Foundation will be held at the Central Bar, Bruree on Friday, December 9th, starting at 9.00 pm. All funds raised will go to the Hope Foundation, Calcutta, an organisation which works with street and slum children in that city. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

BADMINTON:

The officers of Bruree Badminton Club elected recently are Chairman Francis Finn, Secretary Jim O’Connor, Treasurer Elaine O’Dwyer. Players are reminded that membership is now overdue and if you want to continue playing, you are asked to pay this immediately if you have not already done so. Badminton continues in the Community Centre on Monday and Wednesday nights from 9.00 to 11.00 pm. Anyone interested in playing is asked to come along and membership is not confined to the parish. Membership is only open to over 16s.

JUVENILE GAA:

Juvenile GAA Awards Night: Date for your diary! The Annual Juvenile awards night will be held at Bulgaden Castle on this Sunday, 9th December, from 5.00 to 8.00 pm. Tickets are €10 for adults payable at the door. There is no charge for children and all children attending must be accompanied by an adult.  This should be a great evening with lots of medals and awards to be distributed.
Indoor Hurling: The finals of the Indoor hurling tournament took place last week in a welter of excitement. There were some great games with everyone participating doing themselves proud. All 1st and 2nd place finalists will receive trophies at the up coming Juvenile Presentation Night Sunday 9th November at Bulgaden Castle. Kind thanks to Sexton Fuel Yard and Byrnes and Dillon Oil for sponsoring the refreshments on the night of the finals and to the managers of the teams and indeed the referees for the finals Sean Quirke, Stephen McDonogh and Gerard Sexton. The medals were given out by Kieran O'Rourke, a hero to all under age hurlers. But special thanks are reserved for our long term sponsor Mr Ray Moloney who has kindly done so for the last sixteen years. Last but no least a big thank you to the parents of all children who attended the Indoor Hurling this year and indeed a Merry Christmas to all.

LIAM LAWTON:

Liam Lawton will perform in concert at Ballyagran Church on Friday, December 7th. This is a fundraiser for Ballyagran Camogie Club and tickets are available from club members.

GAA:

Players Development Fund: Bruree GAA is holding its Player Development Fund annual draw again this year. The 2012 draw has €4,500 in prizes over four weekly draws. And the good news is that the subscription is still the same - just €20 for the four draws. The first draw will be held on next Monday night, December 3rd, with the other draws on subsequent Monday nights. The prizes for each of the first three draws are 1st €500 2nd €200 and three prizes of €100. The Grand Prize in the final draw on Monday, December 24th is €1,000 with a second prize of €200 and three prizes of €100. To participate in the final draw the full subscription must have been paid. The club caters for a total of nineteen teams at underage and adult level and your continued support for the draw will ensure that the club can continue to provide for everyone in the parish who wishes to participate in our gaelic games. Contact any member of Bruree GAA to join the draw.

ANNIVERSARY:

This Saturday, December 8th, is the 90th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone of the Church of the Immaculate Conception here in Bruree. On that day in 1922, Dr. Denis Hallinan, the Bishop of Limerick laid the stone. Built to a design by S.F. Hynes F.R.I., B.A., by Jeremiah J. Coffey of Midleton and using limestone sourced from a quarry in Tankardstown, the church was completed and opened just two and a half years later.

SANTA:

Come and see Santa on Sunday, December 9th, at Cuan Mhuire Garden Centre, Bruree, from 1.00 to 5.00 pm. And while you're there please browse through their all new Christmas shop....Everyone is welcome.
