BRUREE NOTES 28/4/2013

Bruree Tidy Towns are holding a table quiz on Friday, May 17th, in The Central Bar, Bruree.  There will be a prize for the winning team of four and lots of spot prizes too.  Tickets available in advance from Tidy Town committee members or buy on the night (€40 per table of four).  Further details to follow.

The Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development committee will hold a traditional Irish rambling house on this Friday, May 3rd, starting at 8.00 pm in Bruree Community Centre. There will be excellent entertainment from local and visiting entertainers and all are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The song says that “if they found a hat of his convenient to the door, the more they put in, the better would the music be!” No hat - but a bucket “convenient to” the door and donations will be greatly appreciated. Tea will be served and there will be a raffle on the night. The first rambling house, held back in April, was a great success and had a large crowd. Everyone is welcome.

Cycle/Walk/Run: Over one hundred people participated in last Sunday’s event and enjoyed an exhilarating couple of hours exercise out in the fresh air. The event was started by Kerry footballer, Darragh Ó Sé, and refreshments were served in the Central Bar to allow people wind down and recover. Thanks to everyone who took part and to everyone who helped organise the event and who helped on the day. Any outstanding sponsorship cards should be returned to Johnny Wall immediately.

Sympathy: The club extends sympathy to the families of Andy Dunworth and Tom Horgan who died recently. Tom played with Bruree from the early 1950’s to the mid 1960s, winning South medals at minor and junior level. Tom was the club’s 2010 Hall of Fame recipient. Andy was from nearby Banogue and played with Bruree when they won the south Under 21 hurling title in 1965.

The next car boot sale in aid of the Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development Committee will be held on Saturday, May 25th.

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Andy Dunworth, New York and late of Banogue, Maureen Fitzgerald, Rathkeale, and Tom Horgan, Kilbreedy, who died recently.

U15 ACHL Ballybricken-Bohermore 1 - 9 Bruree 2 - 1: Bruree fielded our first 15 a side team in 5 years when we travelled to Ballybricken to play the local team in what could only be described as a storm. We came away with a very creditable performance but came up short against a strong Ballybricken team.

Lucky dip winners in last week’s Bruree GAA/Rockhill Rovers lotto draw were €50 Joe Carey c/o Ann Potter €25 Patrick Deady, Maurice Conway €20 Pat Cotter, Meanus, pat
Edmonds, Charleville, Jim O’Connell.
