Bruree’s  Under 8 hurlers at the sportsfield for last Friday nights blitz

HAVE YOU OLD PHOTOS?:

Rockhill and Bruree will host its own Gathering 2013 weekend in the parish come the middle of September. The gathering is a year long, countrywide festival aimed at attracting the huge Irish diaspora worldwide home to their native part of Ireland to share the very best of Irish culture, tradition, and history.
The Rockhill Bruree Gathering will combine some well established events in the parish with a number of new and innovative activities. The focus over the weekend will be on family and fun and, recognising the current economic climate, many of the activities will be at a nominal cost or free.
One of the events planned is an exhibition of old photos from the parish or with parish connections. As it’s the fiftieth anniversary of the building of St. Patrick’s National School, the organisers are particularly anxious to secure photos connected to the new school and the other three schools formerly in the parish - Bruree, Rockhill and Killacolla. This year is also the 120th anniversary of the first county senior hurling title coming to the parish so GAA and all sorting photos are also of interest. Photos of people and places, activities and daily life of years ago will be very welcome.
The organisers will be at Bruree School on Thursday, May 16th from 7.00 to 9.00 pm to scan photos, take details and return the originals. This process does not damage the original photograph in any way. Between now and then, people have the chance to search through boxes, albums, attics and anywhere else they store their photos to find some interesting examples. With the advent of camera phones and digital media, everyone can now take photos. However, there was a time not so long ago when cameras were a rare item and the photos produced were treasured mementos. Those document another era, a different era and are a social commentary and record of our parish and its people and activities. You probably have photos which haven’t, maybe, seen the light of days in years. They will bring back memories to you and definitely to many more people.
Contact John Harrold or Brendan Hogan for further details or if you have a lot of photos you would like to have scanned. Anyone away from home may email photos to brendan.hogan@emc.com.

Under 8 Hurling: An U8 Hurling blitz was held in Bruree Sportsfield on Friday evening last. Three clubs where invited but Granagh/Ballingarry sent their apologies for being unable to attend. Because of the large number of players from both Pallasgreen and Bruree was decided to make two teams from each club. Both Bruree teams played brilliantly and won both games, doing the Bruree GAA Club very proud.
Some great talent coming up the ranks and it’s a pleasure to watch our Under 8s competing at such high levels and showing some great skills at this early stage of their young careers. Well done to all the Under 8 players and management.
