BRUREE NOTES 2/6/2013

THANK YOU:

The recent church gate collection in aid of the Irish Cancer Society saw a total of €860 donated. The organisers would like to thank everyone who contributed for their generosity and those who helped for their assistance.

GREAT PHOTOS:

The appeal for old photos for an exhibition as part of The Gathering 2013 celebrations in the parish brought a great response. Two very enjoyable hours were spent scanning and discussing the photographs on Thursdaynight. A range of very interesting and historic photos were brought along. These included school groups from Bruree, Rockhill and Killacolla schools, sporting events, the first presentation of the Donncha O hArgain Cup for Sports Personality of the Year, the “Duke’s” party, fancy dress parades from festivals of years gone by, confirmations, communions, and many, many more. The photos evoked much discussion and reminiscing. Another opportunity will be available for people to bring along photos on Thursday, June 13th, so get searching for those treasured photos! In the meantime, contact John Harrold or Brendan Hogan for further details or if you have a lot of photos you would like to have scanned. Anyone away from home may email photos to brendan.hogan@emc.com.

SKILLS SURVEY:

Charleville Chamber has commissioned a skills profile of the North Cork/South Limerick region to enable more effective promotion of the area as an attractive location for industry to locate and to better understand the development needs of the area. This initiative is supported by Ballyhoura Development Limited. Along with secondary research that is being put together, there is also an online survey available to be filled out by as many people as possible. The data will help provide a profile of the region with the hope of attracting industry and employment. All responses will be treated in the strictest confidence. No response will be viewed individually - all will be aggregated and only viewed in composite form - simply click through, ticking each box as appropriate. The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. If you have any friends or family interested in working in the area and currently living elsewhere please pass it on.

COMMUNITY CONSULTATION:

The next meeting of the Golden Vale District will be held in Granagh Community Centre on Tuesday, June 4th at 8.00 p.m. sharp. The meeting will include a facilitated “Pitstop” consultation session conducted byCommon Purpose which has run a number of these sessions with different groups in the Ballyhoura Development area through 2012-2013. The main objective of these consultation sessions is to enable Ballyhoura Development Ltd to compile a relevant and strategic funding submission for the next Rural Development Programme (LEADER) and Local and Community Development Programme (LCDP) for the period 2014 - 2020. Each “Pitstop” is a chance to engage with certain groups in the local community, to investigate their view of the region and what enhancements, ideas and suggestions they might have around how best to foster the strategic development of communities throughout the area. This will be done by challenging participants to look at how they themselves could make a positive change and by facilitating them to recognise what already exists and to identify what can or could be developed in their local communities.
As many people as possible from the community are urged to attend this District Forum meeting. If you have any queries do not hesitate to contact David O’Grady, Community Development Officer with Ballyhoura Development Ltd. at tel. 063-21008 / email: dogrady@ballyhoura.org.
