BRUREE NOTES 21/7/2013

JUVENILE GAA

Cul Camp: The week that many of the children in the parish look forward to most each year finally arrived with the Cul Camp taking place in brilliant sunshine from the 8th to 12th July. This year was a record breaker with 75 children taking part for the first time. The camp was a great success with Gavin O’Mahony and his team providing expert and fun coaching to the enthusiastic participants. A very encouraging aspect of the camp this year was the numbers of younger children taking part. Also the skill levels shown by the children and the genuine enjoyment showing on their faces must be an encouraging sign for the future. The weather was extremely hot and the children were literally hosed down to keep them cool.
On Wednesday the gear was distributed to the players and on Thursday John Harrold attended and took some lovely photos of the kids who looked great in their new gear. Richie McCarthy another of our inter-county players attended and signed Jerseys for the children.
A special word of thanks must go to Michael Lyons who as ever did a great job in ensuring the smooth running of the camp, Frank and Donna Finn who were ever present during the week ensuring that any issues were dealt with in a speedy manner and Joan Quirke for being present to assist when the coaches were on their breaks. Without these volunteers these events could not happen and the club is very grateful for their dedication.
Under 14 Football: Bruree 5-7 St Senans 4-5 On Wednesday 10th our Under 14s footballers were back on the road after the exertions of the Feile when they travelled to Foynes to take on the local team. On a very warm evening in a big field, both teams struggled to show their true potential. In truth it is a game that won’t live in the memory but a win is a win! On the night Jimmy Leslie-Madigan played well throughout with Harry Mullane playing solidly and Eoghan O’Driscoll doing well in goal.
Fixtures: We have been unlucky over the last couple of weeks with a number of games being cancelled at the last minute across a number of age groups. Unfortunately this has been outside the control of the club and we make every effort to ensure that games are played as scheduled. We recognise the effort that parents have made to get players to the games sometimes travelling back for their holidays.

A DAY FOR GINA:

The big day is just over a week away and it has just been confirmed that Voice of Ireland 2013 winner, Keith Hanley will be in Bruree for the event. He will arrive at about 1.30 pm. A Day for Gina is a very special event being run for the first time on Sunday, July 28th in memory of Gina O’Connor. Her heartbroken family, touched by and in appreciation of the excellent care Gina received want to give something back to the Mid-West Regional Hospital Cancer Care Unit and Milford Hospice. Gina’s husband Maurice, son Mossie and daughter Amy have rounded up a bunch of friends to help them make “A Day for Gina” happen.
Starting and finishing in at the Community Centre Bruree, the event will consist of a number of events to suit all ages, ability and level of fitness.  There will be a 5k walk suitable for all the family, an 8k run, a 45k cycle and a 100k cycle for the more experienced cyclist. All routes will be well marked and marshalled. Most cyclists will be familiar with Maurice and his fellow motorcycle marshals from other cycling events around the county where they escort all participants around the course in safety. This fact alone should encourage cyclists to support this very worthwhile event.
Sign on for the cycles start at 8:30 to 9:30 and the 45k and 100k cycle will start together at 10.00 am. Sign on for run and walk is from10:30 to 11:30 and the walk and run will start at 12.00 noon. The routes will be explained after the safety briefing before the off. There will be tea, coffee and soft drinks for all participants before the start and food and refreshments when you return. There will also be a commemorative medal for all who complete the event.
We appeal to families, walkers, runners and cyclists to come and support this really worthwhile event to help the O’Connor family raise much needed funds for two really important centres of care, comfort and support in our community. We also appeal to local businesses and potential sponsors for any donations you can make to what we’re sure will be a wonderful day.

This is a “Like” page not a “Friends” page, so when you access the page be sure to “Like” it. The response to the page has been phenomenal with almost 500 likes to date and with many thousands having seen the pictures. Senior Champions: In a game which never reached any heights of excitement, Bruree overcame Croom at Kilmallock to take the South Senior Hurling title. Conditions were very warm and the game was almost played at half pace. There was never little more than a score between the sides all through the game but Bruree came good at the end to win by a point. Bruree trailed by a point at half time in a very low scoring game with Kieran O’Dea and Michael Lane providing a point apiece and Kieran contributing three points from frees. Scores were hard tow come by in the second half with Shaun Riordan getting two from play and James V. O’Brien and Kieran O’Dea adding one each. Two pointed frees from Kieran O’Dea left the final score Bruree 0-11 Croom 0-10. Hugh Murphy presented the Cup to Bruree captain, John Paul Murphy, and the Man of the Match award to James V. O’Brien.
