BRUREE NOTES 4/8/2013

MEMORIES BRUREE AND ROCKHILL:

Photos continue to come in for the exhibition planned in conjunction with Rockhill and Bruree’s celebration of The Gathering 2013 to be held in September. Interest in the related Facebook page continues to grow. This is a “Like” page not a “Friends” page, so when you access the page be sure to “Like” it. We will continue to add more photos to the site, so be sure and visit it at www.facebook.com/MemoriesRockhillandBruree. Plans for other events over the Gathering weekend are now being put in place and details will be released over the coming weeks.

RAMBLING HOUSE:

The next traditional Irish Rambling House will be held on this Friday, August 9th, in Bruree hall, starting at 8.00 pm sharp. MC on the night will be John O’Riordan and, as usual, there will be a large amount of talent on hand to entertain with singers, musicians, storytellers keeping the craic going all night. There will be the usual spread for the cup of tea and there will also be a raffle on the night. Admission is just €5 and everyone is welcome - whether you just want to sit back and enjoy the entertainment or perform.

RADIO DRAW:

East Limerick Community Radio is holding a fundraising draw with €2,000 in prizes, including a first prize of €1,000. Tickets are €5 and are available from John Harrold and other station volunteers and presenters. The station broadcasts on 96.8FM and 97.3FM seven days a week.

ROCKHILL AND BRUREE COMMUNITY HALL:

Rockhill and Bruree Community Hall is available for hire! Facilities include large hall with viewing space, stage, two badminton courts, hand ball alley, large outdoor space with outdoor lighting, kitchen. Hourly or nightly rates are available. Phone 086 056 5544 or contact a committee member.

CAR BOOT SALE:

The next car boot sale in aid of the Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development Committee will be held on Saturday, August 31st.

SYMPATHY:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Antoinette Houlihan, Limerick City, Josephine Fitzgerald, Kilfinane, Dick Sheehy, Milford, and Annie Nancy Fitzgerald, St Munchin’s Terrace, who died recently.

FRESH FM:

A table quiz will be held in Goughs (Gearys) Bar in Charleville on Thursday, August 15th, at 9 pm. This is a fundraiser for a new radio station - Fresh FM - which will serve the south Limerick and north Cork areas. Subscription for a table of 4 is €20 and there will be lots of prizes. Come along and enjoy a good night!

FAMILY FUN DAY AT BEECH LODGE:

All are welcome to join us at Beech Lodge on Saturday, August 24th, for an afternoon of music, delicious food and some special guests. We wish to celebrate the good weather with a BBQ and some live music. The fun begins at 2.00 pm. All friends are welcome to join us!

KNOCK CEREMONY:

The Consecration of Ireland to The Immaculate Heart of Mary by Irish Bishops will take place at Knock Shrine on Thursday, August 15th next. This is the opening day of the Novena. A bus leaves Bruree Church at 7.30 a.m. sharp on ThursdayAugust 15th. The fare is €13. Contact Fr. John Mockler on (063)90564 to book or for further details.

CLIONA’S FOUNDATION:

Cliona’s Foundation Cycle, now in its 6th year, will take place on Saturday, August 31st, starting at the Honeyfitz Theatre in Lough Gur.
With three routes including an 8km for family and funsters, the organisers have appealed to experienced cyclists with a challenging 90km route and a 40km less arduous route for leisure cyclists. Following the cycle there’s a BBQ, face painting, music and a bouncy castle to keep the entire family entertained.
So popular is cycling that Cliona’s Foundation has founded it’s own cycling club which is affiliated to Cycling Ireland and is gaining new members each week. This years’ cycle is expected to attract large numbers and particularly with three popular celebrities taking to their bikes on the day in support of the Foundation. Family Cycle starts at 9.45 a.m.,  Experienced Cycle starts at 10am and the Leisure Cycle starts at 10.30 a.m. Entry is €30 for the Experienced and Leisure Cycles and €25 for the Family Cycle.  Entry fee includes insurance, BBQ and entertainment on the day.
