Senior Championship: Bruree travelled to Mungret on Friday evening for their opening game in this year’s senior hurling championship. Adare provided the opposition and it was they who eventually emerged winners. Bruree looked to be well in this game at half time but had no answer to Adare’s scoring power in the second half. Had Bruree performed in the second half as they did in the first they might conceivably ground out a result. Paradoxically, had Adare converted all their chances, the gap on the scoreboard could have been much wider. Bruree played with great heart and fire in the opening half and led by a point at the break. Both sides missed a number of chances during this period with Bruree having at least one goal chance. Bruree’s scores came from James V. O’Brien 0-2, Tommy O’Brien 0-2, Michael Lane 0-1 and Gerard O’Dea 0-1 free to leave it 0-6 to 0-5 in Bruree’s favour at half time. Bruree found great difficulty in getting within scoring range in the second half and could only manage two scores over the thirty minutes. It was tit for tat for most of the half until an Adare goal on twenty one minutes gave them a five point lead. They drove on from there adding five more points with just one in reply from Bruree a Tommy O’Brien effort with five minutes to go. A pointed free from Gerard O’Dea shortly after the resumption left the final score Bruree 0-8 Adare 1-14.
