RACE NIGHT:

As the committee await word on their application for funding under the Sports Capital Programme, the Rockhill Bruree Sportsfield Development Committee continue their fundraising efforts with a major event planned for the end of September. All funding allocated requires matching funds from the recipient, hence the need for ongoing fundraising. The committee will hold a Race Night on Friday, September 28th, at the Central Bar, Bruree, starting at 9.00 pm. Each race will have ten horses and full entry combination (Horse, Trainer and Jockey) is available at just €30. Any part of the combination i.e. horse, trainer or jockey, can be purchased at €10 each. Each race will have a prize of €100 for the winning combination. There will also be a tote on the night to allow punters to bet on their favourite horse.
Combinations or individual parts are available from all members of the sportsfield committee or from members of the organisations and clubs which use the sportsfield - Bruree GAA, Bruree Juvenile GAA, Rockhill Rovers AFC, Bruree Rockhill Community Games, Bruree Childcare Committee, Bruree National School. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Advertisers: Anyone who would like to advertise in the race programme should contact Noel O’Halloran (087-7512396). Details have already been circulated to businesses within the parish.

GAA:

A huge crowd turned out for the duck race and family fun day on Sunday last. By one o’clock, crowds lined the river bank and the bridge as they waited for the release of the ducks. The ducks finally reached the winning line and the following were the winning sponsors: 1st William Horgan 2nd Aoife Prunty 3rd John Flaherty Juveniles 1st Harry Mullane 2nd Conor Buckley 3rd Katie Condon 4th Billy Kiely 5th Rory O’Gorman. After the duck race, the crowds quickly made their way to the sportsfield where a large array of activities were lined up. From hurling blitzes to bouncy castles to milking cows to golf, long puck and face painting there was something for everyone. Everyone got into the spirit of the day which was blessed with good weather. The barbeque, cake sale and shop were kept extremely busy and sold out. The donkey derby caused great excitement as riders tried to get the donkeys to go in the right direction or even to go at all! The day’s activities finished with the tug of war which saw great excitement and rivalry.  The juvenile competition was won by Kiara McCarthy, Katie and Sean Quirke, Peter Buckley, Sam Cronnolly, Finbarr Fitzpatrick and Brian McCarthy. The ladies title went to Margie Crowley, Marcella Sheedy, Elaine O’Dwyer, Caroline Murphy, Catriona Buckley, Louise Lynch, Lisa Carey and Mary Sexton. The men’s tug of war was the finale and with eight teams was closely contested. The winning team was Lawrence and Andrew Sexton, Peter Fitzgerald, Dermot Ryan, Frank Carey and Joachim Kelly. The prizes for the various activities were presented at the end of the day. Thanks to everyone who supported the duck race and fun day. It was great to see such a big crowd of all ages at the sportsfield. Thanks to everyone who helped in organising the event and those who helped out on the day. There was great support from within and outside the club, support which is greatly appreciated by Bruree GAA.
