BRUREE NOTES 19/5/2013

The Bruree Under 8 panel at last Friday night’s football blitz at Bruree sportsfield

GREAT PHOTOS:

The appeal for old photos for an exhibition as part of The Gathering 2013 celebrations in the parish brought a great response. Two very enjoyable hours were spent scanning and discussing the photographs on Thursday night. A range of very interesting and historic photos were brought along. These included school groups from Bruree, Rockhill and Killacolla schools, sporting events, the first presentation of the Donncha O hArgain Cup for Sports Personality of the Year, the “Duke’s” party, fancy dress parades from festivals of years gone by, confirmations, communions, and many, many more. The photos evoked much discussion and reminiscing. Another occasion will be held to give more people the opportunity to bring some more treasures. In the meantime, contact John Harrold or Brendan Hogan for further details or if you have a lot of photos you would like to have scanned. Anyone away from home may email photos to brendan.hogan@emc.com.

TIDY TOWNS TABLE QUIZ:

A capacity crowd turned up on Friday night for the Tidy Towns Table quiz at the Central Bar. After eight rounds of interesting and intriguing questions, the team of Bridget and Liam Hogan and Judy and Eoin Tobin emerged victorious with the great score of fifty one. It was great to see the community supporting the efforts of the small but active and enthusiastic Tidy Towns committee who have been doing great work over the past couple of months in the village.

RAMBLING HOUSE:

Look out for the next traditional Irish rambling house on Friday, June 14th in Bruree Community Centre.

The sale is open to the public from 10.00 am to 1.30 pm and admission is just €2 for adults. Children are admitted free. Tea and refreshments will be available. One of the most popular stalls at previous sales was the fresh, local, vegetable stall and that will be there again for this month.

SYMPATHY:

We extend our sincere sympathy to the family, relatives and friends of Donal Walsh, Tralee, Noel O'Callaghan, Dublin, Finn Guiry, Mungret, Patsy O’Riordan, Howardstown, and John O'Donovan, Newcastle West, who died recently.

ROCKHILL ROVERS:

Rockhill played Kildimo in their final league game, knowing that a win would see them premier football next season and give them a chance to win the league. In terrible playing conditions both teams gave it everything they had, in a fairly entertaining game. Rockhill started very well but didn’t really trouble the Kildimo keeper. The lead goal came after half an hour when Donie Deady finished off a fantastic move to send the sizeable Rockhill contingent crazy! The second half was an end to end battle with both sides having chances. Rockhill probably could have got a second and third with a bit of luck as they dug in superbly and worked tirelessly ‘til the end. The final whistle saw scenes of total and utter joy as, at the second time of asking, Rockhill made it to the Premier. To be fair, from 1 to 11, Rockhill were outstanding and deserve huge credit for the football they played in the last 2 years. It was brilliant to see what it meant to Jamie Lyons after the game and everyone is delighted he gets a shot at the premier - no-one can deny his love for Rockhill Rovers and for football in general. A huge thank you to the lads who travelled back in horrible conditions to support Rockhill and to all who posted to congratulate them on Facebook also! It has been another fantastic season for Rockhill - Division One league cup champions and promoted to the premier. Next Sunday Rockhill play Athea in the play off final to see who wins the league. Again if you can make it back to Clounreask to cheer them on, please do. C’mon the hill!!!

JUVENILE GAA:

An Under 8 Football blitz was held in Bruree sportsfield on last Friday evening. Five clubs were invited but unfortunately Ballybricken and Kilmallock had to send their apologies. Bruree had a large number of players, so it was decided to make two Bruree teams, a white team and an orange team to join Pallasgreen and Knockainey in the blitz.
Both Bruree teams played brilliantly and did their club very proud. There is some great talent coming up the ranks and its a pleasure to watch our Under 8s competing and showing some great skills at this early stage of their young careers. We would like to thank Pallasgreen and Knockainey for travelling to Bruree on the night. Well done to all the Under 8 players and management.

LOTTO:

Lucky dip winners in last week’s Bruree GAA/Rockhill Rovers lotto draw were €50 Nora Mai Donworth, Croom €25 Sean Treacy, Francis Fitzgerald, Hospital €20 James O’Connor, Bridie O’Mahony, Josephine O’Leary, Bruff.
