BRUREE NOTES 11/11/2008

GAA

Junior Hurling:
Our junior hurlers travelled to Newtownshandrum on Friday for the replay of their county semi-final against Doon. The game was played under lights at this excellent facility, Bruree’s first championship game under lights. We saw a much improved performance from Bruree this time out as they upped their game considerably from the drawn game. Bruree settled early, helped by two somewhat fortuitous goals. The first came after a Donal Deady free came back off the upright to find David Hogan waiting to crack it to the net. This was after three minutes and five minutes later the ball was again in the Doon net. A free from Morgan Lyons from about forty yards from his own goal went all the way to the net, giving Bruree a 2-2 to 0-0 lead. Bruree’s points had come from a Donal Deady free and sixty five. Doon had three points from play with Declan Sexton adding one from play for Bruree in the second quarter of the game. Two more converted frees from Donal Deady kept Bruree well ahead going into injury time. Injury time saw Bruree put the game almost beyond doubt as John Lynch whipped a loose ball to the net, followed by yet another converted free from Donal Deady. This left Bruree leading by 3-6 to 0-3 at the break. The second half saw scores hard to come by as Bruree did enough to keep Doon’s ambitions under check. Points from play from Mike Sexton and Donal Deady and two converted frees from Donal Deady left the final score Bruree 3-10 Doon 0-8. The Bruree team was Eamon Sexton, Patrick Deady, Anthony O’Shea, Morgan Lyons, Vincent Stanton, Paul Fitzgerald, Brian O’Rourke, Chris Sexton, John Lynch, David Hogan, Aidan Frawley, Michael Brouder, Donal Deady, Mike Sexton, Declan Sexton, David O’Dea, Michael Cotter, John Deady, Niall Broderick, Sean Deane, Laurence Sexton, Joachim O’Kelly, John O’Halloran, David Broderick.

Players Development Fund:
Bruree GAA is holding its Player Development Fund annual draw again this year. The 2008 draw is bigger and better than ever with €1,000 in cash as a first prize in each of four weekly draws. There will also be one prize of €200 and three of €100 for each draw. And the good news is that the subscription is still the same - just €20 for the four draws. The first draw will be held on Monday, December 1st, with the other draws on subsequent Monday nights. Contact any member of Bruree GAA to join the draw.

Over 40’s:
The proceeds of the over 40’s game were presented to Sr. Phyllis and Michael O’Shea of Milford Hospice on Monday night at the Central Bar by Noel O’Halloran and Johnny Wall. The cheque was a very substantial €1750 and thanks are due to everyone who supported the event so generously. The winner of the hamper which was raffled at the Central Bar was Brendan Hogan.
