Bruree News 04 December 2008

GAA

AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Bruree GAA was held at the Community Centre on Friday night. A large number of members attended to review the past year and plan for 2009. Chairman, Noel O’Halloran, welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. Elaine Horgan’s secretary’s, report reviewed 2008 within the club and congratulated everyone involved in running the club. Elaine looked at the ups and downs of the year for our senior panel as well as the success of our junior panel and the endeavours of our other teams. Noel O’Halloran started his address by congratulating the Junior B hurlers on their county title. He thanked Bruree National School for the help given to the club in keeping the spirit of hurling and football alive in the parish. He thanked the juvenile club for their excellent ongoing work with the young players and congratulated committee, coaches and parents on their efforts. Costs continue to rise and Noel called for continued support for the club’s various fundraising initiatives. He thanked all those who helped with fundraising and all those who supported those efforts. Noel also thanked all the club’s sponsors. He congratulated all the players and team managements for their hard work during the year.

The treasurer’s report showed the club to be in a healthy financial state.

The following are the officers for the coming year: President Ann Potter, Chairman Noel O’Halloran, Vice Chairman Gerard Mullane, Secretary Elaine Horgan, Assistant Secretary Helen O’Sullivan, Treasurer Johnny Wall, Assistant Treasurer Kit O’Halloran, PRO John Harrold, Registrar Brendan Hogan, Youth Officer David Hogan.

Tributes were paid from the top table and from the floor to outgoing treasurer, Noel Brosnan, for his work and commitment to the club over the past seventeen years.

Juvenile AGM: The Annual General Meeting of Bruree Juvenile GAA Club will be held on Friday, December 12th, at 8.00 pm sharp in the Community Centre.

Social: The club’s annual dinner dance will be held at Bulgaden Castle on February 7th next. This is a date to keep clear in your diary for the New Year.

Oral History: The GAA Oral History Project aims to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, in their own words. A questionnaire has been designed to gather as much information as possible and this questionnaire will be preserved as a permanent resource on the history of the GAA and Irish society. This document will be accessible to the public, with the exception of your contact details. Among the topics covered in the questionnaire are the respondent’s memories of the GAA, their own and their family’s involvement in the association and the affect of that involvement in their life. It also addresses the changes which have happened in the GAA and the role, involvement and influences of the Church, politics, the Irish language, women, and volunteers in the GAA. Anyone interested in participating in this collecting of the oral history of the GAA (and everyone who has had even the most fleeting contact with gaelic games and the GAA should participate) can contact Elaine Horgan or John Harrold to obtain a copy of the questionnaire.

Mackey Draw: Bruree GAA had a very successful November Mackey draw with three winners. John Harrold won the two week holiday for two while Sean Deady and Bob Brosnan each won €150. Congratulations to all.

DRAMA

Two active community drama programmes have commenced in Co. Limerick. The BARDS at the Friar's Gate Theatre is open to all aged 55+ and meets on Mondays 12.00 - 2.00 pm. The Active Players at the Rathkeale Arts Centre is open to all adults on Tuesdays 10.00 am – 11.30 pm. The project is funded by the VEC and Limerick County Arts Office and is free for participants. No previous drama experience is necessary. The two hour weekly workshops encourage fun and creative expression through movement, voice, memories, story telling and drama techniques. They revolve around the premise that creativity is ageless and challenge stereotypes. The expression of thoughts and feelings in the safe, fictional world of drama is empowering. The programme is flexible to allow the group to have ownership of the project and follow creative leads where they are expressed. The project is sustainable and can be maintained in 2009 should the group wish to continue. Please contact drama facilitator Fiona Quinn for more details on 086 824 6915 or pop in for a session and see if you like it! – ALL WELCOME!
