GAA
Membership: All members are reminded that their membership fee is now overdue. This is €10 for adults and €2 for juvenile members. The club will be stricter than ever on the payment of membership this year so please co-operate by paying yours immediately.
Oral History: The GAA Oral History Project aims to record the fullest possible picture of what the GAA has meant to the Irish people, in their own words. A questionnaire has been designed to gather as much information as possible and this questionnaire will be preserved as a permanent resource on the history of the GAA and Irish society. This document will be accessible to the public, with the exception of your contact details. Among the topics covered in the questionnaire are the respondent’s memories of the GAA, their own and their family’s involvement in the association and the affect of that involvement in their life. It also addresses the changes which have happened in the GAA and the role, involvement and influences of the Church, politics, the Irish language, women, and volunteers in the GAA. Anyone interested in participating in this collecting of the oral history of the GAA can contact Elaine Horgan or John Harrold to obtain a copy of the questionnaire.
Fixture: Bruree’s Junior hurling county champions will contest the Munster semi-final at Killeedy on this Sunday, January 25th, at 2.30 pm. Cork side, Lisgoold, will provide the opposition.
Social: The Bruree GAA Victory Social will be held at Bulgaden Castle on Saturday, February 7th. Music will be provided by Terminal 11 and we hope that everyone will make the effort to attend to celebrate a successful year for the club. Tickets at just €30 each are available from local businesses and members of the committee. Please purchase yours as early as possible.
Three In A Row: At our Annual GAA social on Saturday, 7th February, we plan to celebrate the achievements of the Bruree Senior team in winning three in a row South Senior hurling titles in 1976/77/78. We hope that all panel members or a representative will make a special effort to attend. Presentations will be made to the panel members on the night. Tickets are €30 and are available from any member of the Bruree GAA Committee.
All Stars: The South All Stars banquet will be held at Bulgaden Castle on Saturday, January 31st. James V. O’Brien, Paul Fitzgerald and Jim O’Brien will all receive awards on the night. Hopefully, some Bruree people will travel on the night to support our representatives. Tickets at €30 each are available from Elaine Horgan or at the door on the night.
Season Tickets: The GAA are offering a deal on season tickets for upcoming league games which will also give those who avail of the offer the opportunity to purchase All Ireland tickets should their county get through to the final. Details are available at www.seasonticket.gaa.ie.
Indoor Hurling: This year’s competition will start on Monday, February 9th, and will finish on Thursday, March 12th. It will run every Monday for Under 10s and 8s and Thursday night for Under 12s between these dates. We ask that all players please attend only the nights that they are playing. Full details will be issued to parents through the School. This Competition is only open to children attending National Schools only. Anyone from the parish who has a child attending a National School outside the parish and would like to attend, a membership form is available from any member of Bruree GAA Club.

Poor Beast In The Rain
Granagh Players will present Poor Beast In The Rain by Billy Roche on Saturday and Sunday, 24th and 25th January and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 30th and 31st January and 1st February in the Community Centre at 8.00 pm nightly.
This Billy Roche play is the mid part of The Wexford Trilogy and is set in an old fashioned bookie in Wexford town, in the early 1980s. It has a time span of one weekend - the weekend in September leading up to the All Ireland Hurling Final. The memory of friends or loved ones who have abandoned or betrayed them haunts all the characters in the play. The betrayal has touched everyone, from jilted lover Molly to jilted husband Steven, to old friend Joe and lapdog Georgie and the return of Danger Doyle on the eve of the All Ireland opens several cans of worms, sealed for a decade or so. His arrival poses a dilemma for Eileen, which is not solved until the end of the play. The talented cast includes Marylee Stapleton, Brid O’Gorman, John Bennett, Jim Chawke, Liam Kelly and Joe Noonan and is produced by Jim Sheehy.
Be there early to ensure a seat as last year’s production was sold out every night.
Active Retired
A meeting of the Rockhill Bruree Active Retired Group will be held in the Community Centre on Tuesday night next, January 27th, at 7.00 pm. New volunteers are urgently required to assist in the running of this organisation and to ensure it’s survival. This organisation has been doing great work for almost twenty years so please make the effort to come along next Tuesday night to signify your willingness to lend a hand.
