BRUREE NOTES 22/3/2009

ALL IRELAND FINAL

Bruree’s Junior B hurlers travel to Raheenagh on Sunday next, March 29th, to play the All-Ireland final. The game is times for 2.30 pm and Athenry of Galway will provide the opposition. This Bruree team has gone further than any of them could have dreamed or imagined. They are only one game away from the ultimate glory. The All-Ireland title is within their grasp but it will take a superhuman effort to go the final step. This team has shown through the campaign that they have guts and determination not to mind skill. They have also had that little rub of the green which is essential to achieving success. Bruree already has a new bunch of sporting heroes and hopefully they will gild the lily with a result on Sunday. We wish them the best of luck and urge all everyone with Bruree allegiances both from within and outside the parish to travel on Sunday to support the team.

WELCOME HOME

Win, lose or draw, Bruree’s heroes will receive a warm welcome back to the parish and the village on Sunday evening next, March 29th. An outdoor reception is planned in the village for 8.00 pm to honour the great achievements of the team this year. Everyone is welcome to come along and hopefully parents will bring their children, the future of gaelic games in the parish, to join the celebrations.

CHELTENHAM

Local trainer, Enda Bolger, continued his love affair with Cheltenham and particularly the Cross County Chase with the top three placed horses in this year’s race. First past the post was last year’s winner, Garde Champetre, ridden by Nina Carberry. In second spot was L’Ami ridden by Mr J T McNamara and third was Drombeag ridden by Robbie Power. Also representiung the stable in the race was Heads Onthe Ground which led for much of the race. All four raced in the colours of J.P. McManus. This is only the fifth running of this race and horses trained at Howardstown have now won four of those. Spot Thedifference won the race’s first running in 2005 while Heads Onthe Ground won it in 2007. Garde Champetre completed back to back victories this year. Well done to all involved.
