All County Hurling League: Bruree travelled to Kilmallock for their opening game in this year’s All County League. Bruree looked good in the opening half and were a point up at the break. Bruree had four points from play with Michael Lane (2), Jimmy O’Dea and Tommy O’Brien finding the range for Bruree. Stephen O’Halloran contributed a point from a free to leave the half time score Bruree 0-5 Kilmallock 0-4. The second half was a different affair with Bruree seeming to lose their way. A string of unanswered points for Kilmallock saw them open a seven point lead by the midway mark of the half. Bruree’s only scores of the half came from Donal Deady frees while Kilmallock added two more points and a late goal to leave the final score Bruree 0-7 Kilmallock 1-12. The Bruree team was Daniel Lane, Morgan Lyons, John O’Brien, Kieran O’Rourke, Dessie Lenihan, Shane Mullane, Patrick Fitzgerald, Andrew Sexton, James C. South Championship: On Saturday night, our senior hurlers took on Croom at Ballyagran in the first round of the south championship. The game was played in atrocious conditions but, nonetheless the teams served up an entertaining and closely fought hours hurling. It was Croom who got off to the quicker start with three early points before Shane Mullane put Bruree on the scoreboard with a point from play after eight minutes. A coupe of minutes later Dessie Lenihan and Brian O’Rourke were involved in a movement which saw Donal Deady finish to the Croom net. Croom added another point while Donal Deady had a point from play for Bruree and Stephen O’Halloran converted two frees to leave Bruree leading by 1-4 to 0-4 at the break. The sides were level midway through the second half with Croom adding four points to Bruree’s one from a Stephen O’Halloran free. Donal Deady’s sharp shooting gave Bruree the edge going into the final quarter, contributing four points for Bruree, three from frees. Croom had three points - two from frees - to leave the final score 1-9 to 0-11 in Bruree’s favour. The Bruree team was Daniel Lane, Kieran O’Rourke, John O’Brien, Andrew Sexton, Dessie Lenihan, James V. O’Brien, Patrick Fitzgerald, Shane Mullane, James C.
