BRUREE NOTES 5/4/2010

GAA

Under 21 Hurling: Our Under 21 hurlers gave a below par performance against Monaleen at Bruree on Monday last. Bruree were lucky to hold out for a draw at the end but had opportunities to win the game. Bruree trailed by 1-8 to 0-3 at half time with points from play from Brian O’Rourke and David Broderick and one from a Michael O’Donnell free. Bruree got off to a good start in the second half with early points from play from Tommy O’Brien and Vincent Stanton. Pointed frees from Tommy O’Brien and Jimmy O’Dea kept the home side in touch after a Monaleen goal. A goal and a string of points from Tommy O’Brien through the rest of the half helped bring Bruree back into the game. The goal came twenty minutes into the half to close the margin to five points. A pointed free from Jimmy O’Dea and four from Tommy levelled the game and Bruree had to weather a late Monaleen attack to divide the spoils. The final score was Bruree 1-12 Monaleen 2-9. The Bruree team was Christy Kelly, David O’Dea, David Deady, Vincent Stanton, Jimmy O’Dea, Brian O’Rourke, Tommy O’Brien, Patrick Deady, Michael O’Donnell, Wayne Kelly, David Broderick, Shane Finucane, Victor Hannan, Michael Cotter, Adam Kelly,

COMMUNITY GAMES

Art: Bruree Rockhill Community Games had tremendous success in the county art final. Ellen and Rachel Williams both won gold medals - Ellen (Under 8) and Rachel (Under 12). They will represent Limerick and Bruree Rockhill in the National finals in May in Athlone. Holly O’Dwyer won silver Under 10, as did Jack Murphy (Under 12) and Rosarie Heffernan (Under 14). Bronze medals were awarded to Lorna Murphy (Under 8), Matthew Howard (Under 10) and Gabrielle Nyst (Under 10). Fourth places were awarded to Rory O’Gorman (Under 8), Tommy Cronnolly (Under 12) and Caoimhe Murphy (Under16). Highly commended certificates were won by Sophie Mullane and Ronan O’Halloran (Under 14). The local area won eleven medals and two certificates. Congratulations to all of them and best of luck to Ellen and Rachel in the All-Ireland art finals in May.

NOVENA

The Divine Mercy Novena ends in Athlacca Church next Sunday, April 11th, from 2.45 to 4.00 pm. Led by Fr. Phonsie Cullinan and Fr. Tony Mullins and other priests, there will be Exposition, Novena prayers, confessions and Mass. All will be blessed with a first class relic of St. Faustina. All are welcome.

DAFFODIL DAY

Mildred O’Dea would like to thank everyone who contributed to her recent Daffodil Day Coffee Morning. The amount collected to date is €803. Thanks a bunch to everyone. The money collected on Daffodil Day is spent on direct patient care services. Among the services supported in the Limerick area last year were the national Cancer Helpline (which dealt with almost 400 calls from Co. Limerick), nights of care (over 400 in Co. Limerick last year), Homecare Palliative Care Teams (over €25,000 across Limerick, Clare and Tipperary last year), financial aid (over €38,000 in Co. Limerick last year), free counselling, information leaflets and factsheets and Oncology Liaison Nurses (one is located at the Midwest Regional Hospital). So any money you donate is used in a practical way with a huge benefit locally.
